There are 16 lakes, the largest of which, Windermere, is said to be the heart of the Lake District. Windermere and Bowness offer an abundance of sporting facilities including sailing, golf, tennis and riding.

There is a large choice of cafes, bars and restaurants serving ethnic to British cooking.

Bowness also has a cinema and night club for those inclined.
