Windermere hotels in Cumbria, England are situated around one kilometre away from the Lake. Windermere does not touch the lake,
but has grown together with the older lakeside town of

There are all types of craft from small dinghies to pleasure cruisers that sail around Lake Windermere. Boats from the piers in Bowness a short 15 minute walk from Windermere sail around the lake.
Ambleside is a good stop off and has a restored railway.
Birthwaite was the original name given to Windermere prior to the arrival of the Kendal and Windermere Railway, which encouraged its expansion.
Windermere station has fantastic train and bus connections to the neighbouring areas, Manchester, Manchester Airport, and the West Coast Main Line.
