June and Ross Nicolson invite you to stay at Newstead Guest House - a delightful and friendly Victorian guest house located between the villages of Windermere and Bowness in the heart of the Lake District - one of Englands most beautiful tourist destinations.

Built in 1897 of traditional Lakeland stone, Newstead Guest House is a very fine example of a detached Victorian villa. The guest house retains many original features including Victorian rose terrace, splendid hall and staircase, marble fireplaces, mahogany woodwork, and even its serving bells.

The guest house has been stylishly refurbished to a very high standard with the extensive use of designs from the Arts and Crafts, Art Noveau and Gothic movements recalling the splendour of Victorian times. There are 8 colourful, interior designed, en-suite guest bedrooms comprising double, twin, family, and larger deluxe four posters including a superb king-size.

Newstead retains its elegant Victorian lounge where guests are welcome to relax and soak-up the rich atmosphere of this truly grand house.

Victorian Guest Lounge

For the comfort of its guests Newstead has retained its splendid Victorian lounge which is decorated in the Arts and Craft style with William Morris prints, antiques, crystal chandeliers, bronze statues, marble and wood panelling.

Here guests may wish to plan their day, read, chat, meet or simply relax and enjoy the rich atmosphere of this fine Victorian residence. A roaring log fire is made up in the Italian marble fireplace to cheer even the coldest day.In summer refreshments can be enjoyed in the garden or on the Victorian rose terrace.

Dining Room

The dining room is spacious, warm and welcoming. It is attractively decorated with original Victorian prints and fabrics, stunning flemish brass chandeliers and antique barley twist tables. The walls display fascinating photographs recalling the life and times of old Windermere. In cooler weather a fire is lit in the Victorian fireplace adding to the cheerful atmosphere of this charming room.

Breakfast is served between 8.30 am - 9.15 am with seating at individual tables.


To tempt you - a wide choice of cereals, fruits and juices are available from the sideboard followed by a delicious and wholesome freshly cooked full English breakfast procured locally from award winning Cumbrian suppliers.



Special or vegetarian diets are also catered for.

Guest Bedrooms

Newstead Guest House has been stylishly refurbished to a very high standard with interior designed bedrooms. Extensive use has been made of stunning, rich and colourful prints and fabrics from the Arts and Crafts and Art Noveau periods. There are 9 very attractive and comfortable en-suite guest bedrooms on the ground, first and second floors comprising superior doubles, twin, family, and larger deluxe king and super king size four posters

All have en-suites with showers while Room 7 has a bath and shower combi. The rooms are bright and airy and many retain their original beautiful Victorian fireplaces. All are well equipped with TV, hair dryers, toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities.

Location

Newstead is located on New Road within a short walking distance of The Lake and the villages of Windermere and Bowness both providing a wide range of pubs, restaurants and shops. A bus and railway station with regular services to major towns and airports are located in Windermere nearby.

Coming by car from the North or South on the M6 motorway exit the motorway at Junction 36 taking the A591 to Windermere. Windermere is about 25 mins from the motorway. Driving through Windermere towards Bowness, Newstead is the second property on the left after Brook Road but before a small park and a clock tower. At night look for 3 ball lights at the front of the property.

Newstead is only 10 mins walk from the railway station. A taxi and bus service are also available at the station.

Windermere is linked to other Lake District towns and villages by a regular bus service and there is a bus stop near to us.

Full day or ½ day guided mini-bus tours can be arranged and will pick - up and drop-off at the guest house.

Car rental and bicycle hire services are available locally.


WHAT TO SEE AND DO
Newstead Guest House is an ideal base for touring and sightseeing the breathtaking Lake District landscape, for leisure and pleasure, which lies on our doorstep. You will find plenty of local walks and the ever popular Orrest Head with excellent views of the Lake Windermere and the Lakeland fells and beyound. Plenty of activities can be found close by fishing, cycling and mountain biking, boating, and horse riding. Ambleside, Grasmere, Keswick, Hawkshead, Coniston and the Langdale Valley are all within 20 - 40 minutes drive by car making us a ideal choice to stay.

Windermere and Bowness offers retail outlets, shops, cafe's, restaurants, bars and a cinema whilst attractions within the district include the popular Lake Windermere Cruises , Windermere Beatrix Potter Attraction , Windermere Steamboats & Museum , Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole on the shore of Lake Windermere. Nearby is the National Trust's ' Townend ' the home of the Browne Family for 300 years and a short distance away in Ambleside is Armitt Library and Museum , Stagshaw Gardens and the ever popular Hayes Garden World with William Wordswoth Rydal Mount , at Rydal and Dove Cottage at Grasmere.
