The Melbourne Guest house in Bowness Village, on Lake Windermere offers guests worldwide a cheerfull and friendly welcome from this family run establishment.
Built around 1876 in traditional cumbrian Stone we are situated in a quiet corner of the village, with a superb choice of restaurants, shops and traditional pubs just a few minutes walk.
Bowness Bay is just a six minute walk.
About the lake district
Try a boat ride on Lake Windermere, visit Beetrix Potter's house nearby, cycling round grizedale forrest, canoeing, horse riding, walking or try a train journey on the Eskwale & Ravenglass narrow gauge railway through some of the most scenic views in england and all the sights you could wish to see.
There is somuch to see and do people always come back for more.
For a nice end to your day, relax in our cosy lounge, watch tv,
read or have a relaxing drink.

Luxurious traditional styled rooms to complement the rich surroundings of the Lake district.
With a choice of rooms ranging from a standard single room (shower and toilet adjacent to bedroom) to doubles and family en-suites. Each room is equipped or available with the necessities for every traveller/holiday maker such as hair dryer, shaving points, iron and ironing board. Cots and high chairs are also available on reqest.
We are fully central heated for those cooler evenings / mornings and have umbrellas ready for that unexpected down pour !! For the weather conscious, we can offer an up to date weather report service also on request.
 Our guest lounge offers peace and quiet with even greater comfort and complementary tea or coffee is served by your hosts, Jeff and Howard. Watch a video, read the local newspaper or just read a book, the choice is yours .

Our well known cooked Lakeland breakfast - made from all fresh local produce
is served from 8am to 9.15am in the dining room.
A continental style breakfast is aslo available for those with a less hearty appetite.
Other times can be arranged with notice
Facilities for bicycle storage are available and a fax machine or for the longer stayers, we can even offer a laundry service. You can have a packed lunch made up for your big days hiking and we'll fill up your flask.

Croissant & toast.
All the above served with tea or coffe and a selection of jams, marmalade, fruit juices, cereals and milk
All our bacon and sausage is supplied by our local butcher and our eggs are free range.

We ask for on most occasions for a minimum stay of 2 nights in the middle
