High Fold Guest House
High Fold Guest House
Prop: Les and Susan Bradley
High Fold Guest House is a 4 star Silver award accommodation that provides a central base to explore Troutbeck, Ambleside, Windermere and the Lake District. Its rural location makes it particularly popular with walkers and cyclists - or those who simply wish to 'get away from it all' and sample peace and tranquillity in beautiful surroundings.
Troutbeck provides a quiet retreat from the hustle & bustle of nearby Windermere and Ambleside. However guests not wishing to drive to enjoy evening and lunchtime meals will find good food, fine wines and ales at two excellent Inn/restaurants, both within walking distance of High Fold Guest House.
The name 'High Fold' reflects the practice of 'folding' the sheep in a protective enclosure. In days gone by this may, for example, have been to protect them from Scottish raiders from the North.
High Fold is surrounded by typical Lake District scenery of lush green valleys, becks (streams), hills and mountain peaks. The house overlooks the Troutbeck valley and Applethwaite to the East. The fells around Troutbeck Park, the Tongue, and the peaks of Yoke, Ill Bell and Froswick lie to the North East. To the North lie the fells of Park Fell, Kirkstone Pass, the High Street range and the route of a Roman road. To the North West of High Fold is Wansfell Pike, from which Ambleside and Lake Windermere can be viewed.
The design of the house has enabled all the guest bedrooms and the dining room to have excellent views * and all the bedrooms are named after local landmarks. All our double beds are king size (6' 6”x5') or super-king size (6'6”x6') and all bedrooms have en-suite facilities, with modern MIRA showers - ensuring ample delivery of hot water. The Applethwaite has the added benefit of a bath in addition to a shower.

Applethwaite is a double aspect room, with excellent views. The West facing window overlooks the old stone sheep fold after which High Fold takes its name and the pretty High Fold Farm cottage and converted barn. The East facing window has glorious views overlooking the Troutbeck valley, Jesus Church and the fells of Applethwaite common.
The Garburn Pass to Kentmere can clearly be seen from the East facing window.
Applethwaite also has its own full size bathroom, with bath and shower facilities.
Our dining room surely has to have some of the best ‘breakfast views' in the Lake District. Enjoy our excellent breakfast - whilst enjoying magnificent views over Applethwaite and the Troutbeck Valley.
Start by choosing from our selection of cereals, yogurt and fresh fruit salad. Sample our full English breakfast or maybe try something a little lighter. Our eggs are free range and sausages, bacon and black puddings are provided by a local award winning butcher. Vegetarian guests are most welcome and well catered for.
