explore Explore this beautiful landscape ranging from rugged hills to quaint villages. Explore our history. Hadrian's Wall, designated a World Heritage Site, passes within a mile and a half of the hotel. The Roman Army Museum, Vindolanda Museum and the Roman forts at Birdoswald and Housesteads are all within twenty minutes drive of the hotel. Hadrian's Wall is now also the focus of a coast-to-coast walking path and a recently opened cycling route.

We have a wide range of rooms, all with en-suite facilities. Given the elevated location of the hotel, many of our bedrooms have fantastic views over the surrounding countryside.

Galloways Bar is open to both residents and non-residents, serving a wide range of meals at lunchtime and in the evening.

Menu

A range of specials is displayed on the blackboard every day. In addition, the standard menu includes an extensive variety of popular meals together with a range of other dishes to tempt your palate. A few examples from the menu are:

Starters
  • mushrooms with creamy garlic sauce: whole button mushrooms smothered in a creamy garlic sauce, served on crispy fried bread
  • grilled black pudding: served with a creamy wholegrain mustard sauce
  • moules mariniere: mussels in a white wine sauce, served with a hot crispy bread roll
Main courses
  • grilled lamb chops: served in a port and redcurrant gravy with roast and boiled potatoes and vegetables
  • scampi in beer batter
  • roast duck breast: served in a tangy apple and plum sauce
  • traditional fish and chips
  • lasagne served with a light salad and fresh hot garlic bread
  • chicken korma: a mild and light creamy curry served with saffron rice and poppadum
From the grill
  • Galloway's mixed grill: 8oz sirloin, 6ox gammon, lamb cutlet, Cumberland sausage with fried egg, mushrooms, black pudding and fried onion rings
  • fillet steak Rossini: prime fillet steak served on a crouton with pate and red wine

Vegetarian dishes

  • vegetable and stilton crumble
  • vegetable bourguignon: vegetables in a rich red wine sauce with a herb dumpling, served with boiled rice
