Historic House and Gardens
is situated North of Keswick
on the A591 which overlooks Bassenthwaite Lake and was
the Regional winner in 1998 NPI Heritage Awards.
The house belongs to the Spedding family and within
the 17th-Century house, you will find cultural interest
ranging from original furniture that adorns the graceful
rooms with portraits and manuscripts of Francis Bacon,
Carlyle and Tennyson are on display. With the house
being lived in there is a restricted times to visit

You
will find the gardens in a spectacular setting which
includes a walled honey garden with a varied shrub collection
and flowers that attract the bees and butterflies and
makes this a sheltered spot for picnics. There is also
a wildflower meadow with access to the 10th-Century
lakeside church of St. Bega with a lakeside walk that
takes you through woodlands and also adventure playgrounds
can be found for the younger members.
It is also the venue for Keswick Jass Festival and also
Bobbin Lace Demonstrations are held, for more details
