 Between
Lakes Windermere and Coniston is found the largest forest
in the Lake District; six thousand acres of woodland
for you to explore on foot or by bike.
The Visitor Centre at Grizedale, three miles from the
village of Hawkshead, has a wide range of facilities
for visitors. Here you can get information on the many
walking and cycling trails through the forest. You can
also hire a bike for the day if you haven’t got
your own. Experienced bikers can try out the new single
track mountain bike trail which winds through the forest
for over ten miles.
If you’ve ever wanted to swing through the tree
tops you can do this at Grizedale too. Go Ape gives
anyone over the age of ten the chance to explore the
forest canopy on an aerial assault course. Younger children
can have fun on Grizedale’s unique play area,
shaped like a giant lizard over eighty metres long (you
can even run up and down it’s back).
Back down to earth, don’t forget Grizedale’s
famous sculptures in the forest. There are over seventy
of them to find and wonder at. You can even play a tune
on some of them.
After all this exploring you will be glad of a rest
at Grizedale’s own café with its delicious
snacks, cakes and ice cream.
Spend a day at Grizedale, it’s a forest for everyone!
It is advisable to
contact Grizedale prior to your visit if there is something
specific you wish to see or any alterations have been
made to the Opening times and the attraction itself.
