| Dalemain
Historic House & Gardens can be found on
the A592 between Ullswater [Pooley
Bridge] and Penrith.
The house is a family home and been in the same family
since 1679 you will find the house a mediaeval Tudor
and early Georgian house. The house was featured in
the London Weekend Television's production of Jane Eyre.
You will discover Georgian public rooms
including 18th Century Chinese hand-painted wallpaper
in the Chinese Room, Tudor passages, stairways and 16th
Century plaster ceilings in the Fretwork Room.
Fine furniture, family portraits, ceramics,
old toys, doll's houses and also the Westmorland &
Cumberland Yeomanry Museum can be viewed.
The gardens of Dalemain are a delight
and enchanting which give a sense of peace, calm that
will leave an impression with you. Within the gardens
you will discover the blue poppies, old fashioned roses,
ancient apple trees, tulips, herbs, shrubs and wild
flowers in various settings and features at different
times during the season.
Home made lunches can be found being served
and afternoon teas in the Manor Hall which dates back
to the 1400 and when a cool a log fire will be burning
away. There is also a Licensed Restaurant.

In the Dalemain Gift Shop you can browse
and purchase gifts you will discover something for everyone
while in the Plant Centre many English plants and old
fashioned roses can be bought. In the Great Barn discover
the Agricultural and Countryside Collections.
Walks can be taken along the footpaths
that pass in and around Dalemain and close by at Pooley
Bridge you can take a cruise on Ullswater on the
Ullswater
Steamers.
It is advisable to
