Hall Gallery
Abbot Hall is an awarding gallery in the north west of
England situated in Kendal. Abbot Hall can be found on
the banks of the River Kent, that is surrounded by a park
and the ruins of Kendal Castle overlooking the hall.
You will find works of British art that derives from
its collections and the various exhibitions held throughout
the year by leading artists in a relaxed and friendly
atmosphere.
You can view the collections in the setting of elegant
Georgian rooms and the paintings in their period setting,
alongside furniture and objects of art of the time.
You will find a collection by George Romney [1734 -
1802] along with Ramsay, Lawrence, Ruskin, Turner, Nicholson,
Schwitters, Spencer and Hepworth. These works and many
others are shown on a rotation basis so it is advisable
that you contact them prior to your visit if there is
something specific you wish to see.
The Abbott Hall Coffee shop offers an delicious menu
which is freshly prepared daily and a selection of wines
and beers are available with meals.
The Gallery Book shop offer a fine range of art books,
exhibition catalogues and postcards.

Museum
of Lakeland Life
Museum of Lakeland Life is situated opposite the Abbot
Hall in Kendal depicting the lives of the people of
Cumbria over the last two hundred and fifty years. The
museum is in a converted stableblock, with permanent
collections that include displays which are linked to
the Arts and Crafts movement, 'Swallows and Amazons'
author Arthur Ransome, and the Victorian period.
Discover a Lakeland kitchen along with recipes, utensils.
Victorian furnishings, 17th- century four poster bed,
vernacular furniture and furnishings, recreated Lakeland
farmhouse room settings and workshops. You will also
find a variety of temporary displays, throughout the
year, along with a program of educational activities
and events.
Browse The museum shop and purchase locally made craft
items, foods, photography pictures and books.
You will find something for all the family at the museum
of Lakeland Life.

Kendal Museum is one of the country's oldest museums and
can be found in Kendal and is managed by the Lake District
Art Gallery and Museum Trust. You will find excellent
displays of archaeology and natural history, both local
and worldwide with the museum charting the developments
from the prehistoric times right through to the 20th Century.
Education is a major factor at Kendal Museum for the
children with the displays, and interactive exhibits.
Alfred Wainwright once a well known fell walker in the
Lake District was once the museum's honorary curator
and you can see a reconstruction of his office on the
ground floor along with some of his original drawings
he used in his books
