CLIMBING - EQUIPMENT
- Belay Devices
Belay
Devices are simple and when correctly used
and in conjunction with a large screw-gate karabiner
and with a climbing rope this helps to increase the
friction at the point of belay, thus stopping the fall
or reducing the fall. They can either be a Anka, Bug,
Betterbrake, Variable Controller and a Cardiac arrester.
There are normal two [2] slots so that a single or double
rope belaying can be used.
You can also use a Tuber, Belay Plate with spring [Original
belay device] and a Belay Plate without the spring.
Belay
plates can also be used to abseil, it is advisable to
use a descender if you are planning to do big abseils.
Always check the devices and the karabiner used for
any sharp edges thus preventing the rope from being
damaged. The belayer must be taught correctly how to
feed the rope through these devices and what to do if
there is a fall.
Always seek advice from the specialist outlets.
