Lake District Accommodation

1 Park Road

Windermere,
English Lake District,
Cumbria
LA23 2AW

Tel: 015394 42107

1 Park Road is set in a quiet residential area of Windermere just a short stroll from the centre of Windermere and Bowness. Mary and Philip Burton have perfected this Les Routiers award winning bed and breakfast, to offer all the little extras, discerning guests have come to expect from a small luxury guest house. 1 Park Road is also suitable for a meeting venue for small groups who want time out, maybe with their partners or for business meetings- see special extras

After parking in the private car park, walk into the house (that was once a gentleman's residence), where the blend between modern and traditional is apparent: the tiled floors in the hall, the original stained glass windows on the landing and the original stair case boasting fresh flowers. The overall feeling of this boutique bed and breakfast is one of tranquillity which many guests comment on.

1 Park Road plays its part in trying to tackle environmental issues through recycling, using energy in an efficient manner and sourcing produce from local suppliers to reduce air miles.

Come to relax in a friendly atmosphere

Music, humour and conversation are important to Philip and Mary. You'll hear a range of musical styles often playing in the lounge, which boasts a grand piano available for guests to play. Philip and Mary also enjoy the regular banter with their guests!

You can sit in the lounge to read your newspaper or choose a CD from our wide selection, whilst drinking a glass of wine or continental beer from our extensive collection. Recently refurbished, all the bedrooms are bright and spacious, each designed with individual taste. Modern French and Art Nouveux pictures adorn the walls, whilst cafetieres of fresh coffee and milk and a variety of teas are available in each bedroom. DVD, CD players and Ipod docking stations are standard in each room as well as full en-suite facilities. We've even installed wireless broadband, so you can check your emails and access the internet, all free of charge.

Bedrooms

All our 6 en-suite bedrooms have been recently refurbished and are tastefully decorated. The rooms on the second floor have wonderful views of the Lakeland hills. The luxury rooms have large King Sized beds and sofas, and the superior or standard rooms, although slightly smaller, are just as cosy and homely with comfortable beds. We have Wireless network to allow you to access your lap top in each of the rooms and the lounge

The family bed room, as well as a double bed, has two single beds.
A travel cot is available.

Modern French and Art Nouveux pictures or drapes from Morroco adorn the walls of the bedrooms, whilst cafetieres of fresh coffee and milk and a variety of teas are available. DVD, CD players and Ipod docking stations are standard in each room as well as full en-suite facilities. Our fresh coffee is bought from Farrers, a local coffee merchant in Kendal, or there are Fair Trade coffee and hot chocolate sachets.

The lounge has that “wow” factor when guests walk in: a varnished floor, old and modern art on the walls, fresh flowers and a warm glowing fire for when it gets chilly. Lose yourself in the piles of magazines, books, CDs, puzzles or the grand piano.

Dining

1 Park Road guests love our food and we love serving it to them. We offer breakfast , dinner and accompanying drinks to all of our guests.

We also go that a little bit extra most Guesthouses wouldn't and offer a few extra goodies that you can take full advantage of during your stay with us.

Breakfast offers a wide range of choice to suit all tastes - seasonal fresh fruit, omelettes, yoghurts and fruit smoothies. For those with a heartier appetite, our freshly cooked English breakfast boasts award winning sausages from Huddlestones Butchers, bacon from Cheshire and free range eggs from Bannerigg Farm. You could try one of the specials such as Eggs Benedict, Scottish smoked kippers or smoked haddock. Vegetarians are also well looked after, as are people on special diets, such as gluten free menus.

Breakfast is a leisurely affair served in the dining room and freshly cooked to order.

2 or 3 course dinners all freshly made from local produce and served on a Friday, Saturday and often during the week.

The menu is tasty, wholesome and unpretentious, and changes weekly.

Starters include a variety of soups served to suit the time of year (and our British weather!) with favourites like chilled gazpachio, mushroom with a hint of truffle oil, Morecambe Bay Shrimps, classic French onion soup or haddock chowder. Our main courses include Lamb Shanks (braised for 2 or 3 hours), salmon cooked in a grapefruit hollandaise sauce, wild mushrooms cooked with Madeira and lemon or traditional Italian ragu served with fresh spaghetti.

To end a lazy evening, our dessert menu includes chocolate soufflé, summer Eton mess with Cassis, creamy rice pudding, Cartmel sticky toffee pudding, home made ice cream or a crumble with seasonal fruit and crème anglaise.

Wine

Mary's love of fine wines and Philip's interest in beer means there is always a wide choice of wines and beers available. 1 Park Road is fully licensed so you can enjoy a drink in your room whilst settling down to watch a DVD. Fancy an aperitif in the lounge? How about partaking of a gin and tonic or glass of Pimms before you go out, or treat yourself to a cool beer to recover from that long day's walking in the hills?
